Christian Martine of Daniels, West Virginia, is a recent graduate of Shady Spring High School and a rising first year student at Washington and Lee University.
Appointed by Governor Joe Manchin, III, Christian served on the West Virginia Partnership to Promote Community Well-Being from 2008 until 2010. The WV Partnership is the state’s designated substance abuse prevention planning and policy body. Christian served on the Communication, Procedures, and Legislative Affairs Workgroup. As a recent graduate of Shady Spring High School, Christian resigned on July 16, 2010 from the Partnership as the Executive Orders requests that a current public high school student holds a seat.
An exceptional student, Christian is the Salutatorian for the Shady Spring High School class of 2010. He is a West Virginia Student of Excellence, recipient of President’s Volunteer Service Award, and is an Elks National Scholar. He has received accolades in competitions including Model United Nations, We the People Oratorical Competition, and West Virginia Math Field Day.
Christian is a member of the Education Committee of the Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce, American MENSA, and the National Association of Sports Public Address Announcer where he holds the distinction of being the 2009-2010 High School Sports Public Address Announcer of the Year. He was the 2009-2010 Secretary of State of Mountaineer Boys’ State and a 2009-2010 member of the the Beckley Area Foundation Distributions Committee. Christian is also a Notary Public for the State of West Virginia
In September, Christian will enter Washington and Lee University as a member of the Class of 2014.
